In 1992, Congress established the Section 184 Indian Housing Loan Guarantee Program. Commonly referred to as the HUD 184 Program, it offers home ownership and housing rehabilitation opportunities for eligible Native American individuals, families and tribes. Primarily geared to first-time homebuyers and low- to moderate-income families, the HUD 184 Program has several features that make it easier for Native Americans to obtain home loans. These include:
If you’ve been turned down by other lenders or mortgage programs, the HUD 184 may be the answer for you. Flexible underwriting makes it easier to qualify. When you apply for a conventional loan through a bank or mortgage lender, the parameters are set by an automated, software-driven underwriting mechanism. If you don’t fit into the pre-determined “box,” you don’t qualify for the loan. The HUD 184 program has certain basic criteria that must be met in order to qualify for a loan. But the program also makes very generous allowances for lack of credit history, past credit problems, or other circumstances that don’t fit normal lending parameters. More important, each loan application is considered on a case-by-case basis, and is personally underwritten by a HUD representative. This allows many Native Americans who would not qualify for conventional loans to obtain a HUD 184 loan. With Bank2, you’re not just another number. At Bank2, your HUD 184 loan application is not decided by a computer or some faceless bureaucrat halfway across the country. Instead, you will have a one-on-one relationship with our Native American loan specialists who will actually listen and take the time to understand how you plan on accomplishing your financial goals. So even if you have bad credit or no credit history at all, you may still qualify for a HUD 184 loan. If you’re tired of being treated like a number, give Bank2 a call. Our experienced loan specialists will answer all your questions about the HUD 184 program and show how you can qualify for your own Native American home loan.
